The old team left and the new team is here.

the new group

This semester, we are starting with a new group of teachers and a new company. We will be working together in the curriculum kitchen. Things are moving so fast and the new teachers have a lot on their plate, it will take some time to get all the new teachers on this blog to share and add value to this blog.

We  would like to thank all the teachers in Jeddah Interlink team ( the previous partners) who contributed to this blog and to the program through sharing their classroom activities in the curriculum kitchen. All their posts are still available on this blog, but unfortunately all  the post photos were automatically removed because they were removed from authoring on this blog.

The actual text of their posts remains here ,but the photos were removed because the photos were saved on their personal google cloud and not on this blog cloud.

This blog was and is still an experiment blog, where teachers in the Jeddah TVTC intensive English program share and discuss some of their students work and classroom activities here.

The old team and the company left the program, and now we are working with a new team and a new company. So We  had to remove all old team authors from this blog. Their work is still here but they can not add new posts here. Their posted names are also have been replaced automatically to posted by unknown. We did not know that will happen. We  thought their names will still be posted at the bottom of the post.

We really thank them for their contribution on this blog and in the program. Blogging was something new for most of them ,but they still joined the blog and shared their work here.

Mr. Theodore Lang the (assistant country director ) at Interlink visited the program this week. It was three day visit. He gave a three day workshop and he visited the classes and met with the teachers.

Summary of the workshop:
Our first session was about teaching mixed abilities classes. The session was interesting. Everybody participated, and trainer talking time was to minimal. I thought it was good hour of practical training.

Session two and three was was about project-based-learning (PBL) and smart objectives. We also trained on using material form the resource room. We ended the workshop reflecting on the process of teaching and learning.  We thank Mr. Lang for his visit and for the workshop and we hope to see him next Semester.

Week 13 meeting

Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.
Frederick Douglass

Good morning team,

We would like to thank Oybek for sharing with us a summary of the main topic covered in our weekly meeting. And we would like to thank Abdullah for sharing his views on teaching reading.

At the end of the week meeting,  Abdullah delivered ten minute talk on teaching reading. He shared with us some guidelines and tips and activities as well as some reading strategies which can help our students improve their reading . then, the floor was open for questions and discussion.

Teaching students to read in a foreign language is not easy. We need to find material that is suitable for their language level, which they find interesting and relevant. Some teachers prefer authentic material and others look for short passages form different resources. Some teachers let students choose a short fiction book, which they find interesting and suitable for their language level. There is no one solution that fits all students, but the important think is that we all need think creatively and work as a team by sharing our experiences.

Share with us some positive stories and experiences on teaching reading.

Week Five workshop

This weeks workshop was very productive. We would like to call it "a production meeting". The main goal of the meeting was creating flashcards for low level students. The table in the curriculum kitchen was set. The tool boxes were open , and once the teachers came in all rolled their sleeves and got to work. In one hour we wrote more than 300 flashcards. Its a great feeling to work as team.

Visiting Mr. Eyaaz class (A103) reading and writing teacher- beginner level

I visited Mr. Eyaaz class A103. He was expecting me. I only spend an hour, and I was impressed by his approach and classroom management skills. Everyone looked happy and engaged,  in their writing activity. I talked with Mr. Eyaz on how his students were progressing. The classroom is a writing workshop. I recorded  his talk during our weekly curriculum development workshop, at the end of term two, week fourteen.
