"Learning how to learn is life's most important skill"
Tony Buzan
Teachers evaluating students mind-maps to choose the winner according to the criteria mentioned above. The results will be announced Sunday of next week. Each mind-map was checked and evaluated by all teachers. Next week we will post the winning mind-map. The forms that were designed by Mr. Oybek helped us focus on the main objective behind the whole contest.
We want students to use mind-maps to learn English and to help them learn practical skills to continue learning. Mind-maps are not hard to learn, but we need to implement them every week, if we want it to become a learning habit.

Country factsheet project / Objective 3 from Unit 11 of Blue Book
Students have been working on a project about a country of their choosing since the beginning of the week. They were put into groups of three, choosing a continent for their own group. They then chose a country each to find information about. Once their research was completed, they produced an A3 factsheet poster showing the details of their findings. They will present the poster and use Google Earth as a visual aid in their discussions to the class.

Week 13 meeting
Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.
Frederick Douglass
Good morning team,
We would like to thank Oybek for sharing with us a summary of the main topic covered in our weekly meeting. And we would like to thank Abdullah for sharing his views on teaching reading.
At the end of the week meeting, Abdullah delivered ten minute talk on teaching reading. He shared with us some guidelines and tips and activities as well as some reading strategies which can help our students improve their reading . then, the floor was open for questions and discussion.
Teaching students to read in a foreign language is not easy. We need to find material that is suitable for their language level, which they find interesting and relevant. Some teachers prefer authentic material and others look for short passages form different resources. Some teachers let students choose a short fiction book, which they find interesting and suitable for their language level. There is no one solution that fits all students, but the important think is that we all need think creatively and work as a team by sharing our experiences.
Share with us some positive stories and experiences on teaching reading.

2 minute hobby
Here the students all spoke for around two minutes on their favorite hobby. The students prepped a week prior with a full outline of what the hobby was, when they did it, where they did it, how they do it, with whom can participate in the hobby, and why they do it whether positive or negative outcomes of doing the hobby. It helped build a lot of confidence in the students to manage time and speak in front of the class.
Family Tree...
Students had to construct family trees.

Week 12 meeting - term 2
We had a short week last week, because of the rain and the weather conditions. We were back to school on Thursday.
Thanks for the constructive discussion we had last Thursday! I would like to thank Oybek for sharing the summary with us.
Here is the brief summary of what we covered:
- Bilal shared with us how informing students about weekly learning objectives can be beneficial for their learning and motivation. He showed us a sample portfolio from one of his groups where students on a weekly basis add a divider page. On this page students write three learning objectives and during the course of the week they add their own work which reflects those objectives.
- Michael facilitated the discussion of the types of questions we can ask students to get their feedback about the activities and lessons. These questions can be asked in a plenary discussion or distributed to students in a form of a small survey (paper or e-versions). We can also put a "suggestion box" in a visible corner of the classroom where students can leave their comments in written form. If comments are in Arabic, our AAs can help with translation.

Curriculum meeting week 19 term 3 - Language Games
program buildings
Language games:
This week, we had a training session where we played a game. The teachers were divided into two groups, and there was a chart with numbers from 1 to 20. We can not write notes. Each team must call two numbers and try to match the information in both numbers so that they make sense. At the beginning, we were slow, but few minutes into the game everyone was participating and engaged. what was interesting is that Mr. Obek choose sentences what were related to information teachers needed to know at work. That what made the game meaningful and not just a game.
I think the concept of gamification in learning a new language is very important and teachers should give it more attention if they want their classes to be fun and enjoyable.
Also this week, Mr. John Zerling from EGA visited us and made classroom visits, and then had a meeting with the teachers.
That's all for this week.

28 TVTC centers to train Saudi students
Jeddah TVTC English Program: 28 TVTC centers to train Saudi students:
from Arabnews.com RIYADH: ABDUL HANNAN TAGO Published — Wednesday 15 April 2015 28 TVTC centers to train Saudi students Saudi...
Saudi students will get ample opportunities to shine, as the Technical
and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) has announced the launch of
28 centers.
The centers, to be set up in TVTC-affiliated colleges and
institutes, will seek to discover budding talent among the trainees,
TVTC spokesman Fahd Al-Otaibi said on Sunday.
“These students will be supported all the way from germination of ideas to their implementation with technical advice and other kind of support,” he said.
It will also enable Saudis to take part in international competitions and
exhibitions on innovation, said Al-Otaibi. “TVTC participated last year
with 20 innovative projects in three international competitions — The
42nd Geneva Exhibition of Inventions, ITEX14 Exhibition of Inventions in
Malaysia and the IENA (International Trade Fair Ideas) Germany.”
In Geneva, the Saudi team won two gold medals and four bronze medals, six
gold medals and two silver in Malaysia, and a gold, a silver and four
bronze medals in Germany, said Al-Otaibi.
“This would help them in adopting distinctive innovations, as part of an integrated project that includes all units in all regions of the kingdom” he said.
The TVTC will be providing those students actual and theoretical programs and
innovative educational support, which would help them convert their idea
into reality. The centers will also work to identify and discover
excellence and creativity among trainees in technical and vocational
fields, said Al-Otaibi.
This will be in addition to the competition
and exhibition of technical innovations organized by TVTC annually,
during which valuable prizes are given to distinguished winners.
The TVTC also helps students in gaining access to international events.'
