  1. Dear Colleagues,

In this meeting we discussed using classroom language as a way of getting students to use English more in lessons (e.g. during pair and group work, addressing the teacher and other students, etc.).

We brainstormed some of the classroom language and discussed to which of the following uses these phrases can be attributed to:
    Teacher to student
    Student to teacher

We also discussed the types of activities which can be done to “teach” these phrases to students.

For higher level classes it might be
getting students create a list of phrases for the categories provided by the teacher and post these phrases on the wall for their reference. Some categories can be “Addressing the teacher”, “addressing students”, “pair and group work”, “asking for a request/help/clarification/permission/etc.”
With lower level students some of the activities can include
providing students with the list of phrases they can use in class and getting them to decide to which category these phrases belong to. Students create posters with phrases for different categories and post them on the wall for their own reference.

There are also a great variety of activities available on the Internet for getting students use classroom language and Shams kindly volunteered to do some research into these activities and share with us any useful ideas.

    1. Thank you Mr. Oybek for sharing a summary of the important discussion we had in our weekly curriculum meeting.

I think if we succeed early in making English the language of all conversations and instruction in class we would do our students a big fever. WE need to use all means necessary.
